This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip to Porto. Communication with Márcio was great; we knew exactly what to expect beforehand. He picked us up from our hotel, and on the drive to the Douro valley, after treating us to cappuccinos, Márcio shared his extensive knowledge of Portuguese wine, food, and culture. Here’s where it pays to book a private tour— the drive up to the first winery we visited was up a windy, steep drive that could not be made by a larger sized tour group. The view and staff of this small winery were spectacular, and the wine was even better. We were kicking ourselves afterward for only purchasing one bottle. My husband and I had our own private tasting table in front of the window, apart from a tour group, and we were given higher-end and additional wines to taste. We were very well tended to at the second winery we visited as well. We made several other stops in various nearby towns that added to the the local experience. Márcio genuinely ensured we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves the whole day. This tour was authentic, did not feel the least bit touristy, and would not have been the same without Márcio. As a side note, I am a vegetarian, and Márcio ensured that I had ample food options at each stop.

You can tell Marcio loves wine and is doing his best to provide great experience to his guests. We visited a picturesque village and 2 very special wineries with a bunch of beautiful spots on the way. And lunch in the middle was beyond all praise! The tour is highly recommended to all wine lovers.

Overall this experience was wonderful and felt intimately personalized.Every location we visited had a different activity, it wasn’t just wine tasting. Additionally, we learned how the production of wine within the region varies widely, from industrial proportions to homemade traditions. We were treated with an extraordinary meal for lunch highlighting traditional Portuguese food and cooking techniques. Last but not least, the tour guide is a master class in hospitality and it was a pleasure to get to know him. He was flexible to our desires throughout the tour, and was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the valley and the production of wine.

Very Disappointing. Trip is described as 2-8 people, in reality it is much more public. Whilst there may be up to 8 persons in the vehicle, a number of vehicles meet up at the tour places. The wine tasting is so disappointing, no sense of visiting a winery, just a few sips of wine/port and that’s it, as for olive oil tasting, just a few pieces of bread dipped in one type of oil. Lunch dreadful at a house, not sure of standards or regulations, very basic food. Boat trip ended up as a public event with circa 60 people. All in all a premium price for a basic tour, you would do better organising something your self.

Great day in the Douro valley which was made even better by Marcio. Private tour allowed us the flexibility and intimacy we required and avoiding the crowds was an added bonus. Marcio made the day with his knowledge of the area and the little places he knows which would have been missed without him, he gave us the best experience possible! We booked this tour without having much expectations and we were blown away. Our tour guide Marcio was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the Douro Valley area and of course.. the wines. The quality of service was outstanding for the price of the tour. We had a relaxing day outside of Porto, where we got to experience a visit to Amarante, visit a traditional Portuguese tavern, have a comprehensive oil & wine tasting, and end the day with a boat ride across Pinhao. We truly recommend booking this tour.
